๐ŸŒต #5: A Guide to Local Farmers Markets

Welcome to issue #5 of Trail Mix, a weekly newsletter about the people, places, history, and happenings in Southeastern Arizona.

Hello, you beautiful cactus flower!

Welcome back to another hot one in Southeastern Arizona, where I'm still holding on to hope that we'll get some monsoon action soon. Monsoon or not, it's good to see you again. I've got a fresh letter ready to go. Hope you enjoy!

Fall fun: COMING SOON!

As pumpkin spice drinks hit coffee shop menus and all of Southeastern Arizona dreams of cooler temps, I'm getting ready to release something that'll make it even more fun to shepherd in the sweater weather โ€” a local Fall passport.

Arriving on September 1, you'll receive a FREE local passport featuring Fall events, activities, and discounts to local businesses. And the best part? You don't have to do anything to get it. You're already on the list for this FREE local passport.

BONUS: Want to be that friend who always seems to have the scoop on cool things happening in our area? Use your exclusive invite link and post on social media. The freshness. The homemade gems. The smiling faces. There's something so uniquely special about heading to the farmer's market on a weekend morning, canvas tote bag slung around your shoulder, and ready to bring home something special. This week, we're rounding up some of our favorite farmers' markets across Southeastern Arizona.

โ€‹Heirloom Farmers Marketโ€‹

You can't talk about farmers' markets in Southeastern Arizona without listing the many locations of the Heirloom markets. From Friday mornings at Udall Park to Saturday mornings in the barn on Old Spanish Trail, there are lots of local vendors and artisans waiting at these markets.

โ€‹Rustic Roots Farmers Marketโ€‹

Located in the (relatively) new Tractor Supply in Rita Ranch, the Rustic Roots Farmers Market has quickly made a name for itself in our community. From fresh eggs to microgreens, you can find lots of delicious and homemade treats. Bonus, they often have a Kid's Zone!

โ€‹Sonoita and Elgin Farmers Marketโ€‹

Consider this a "worth the scenic drive" type of farmers market if you're up in Vail! This market happens every Saturday from 9 AM to Noon and has crafts, fresh produce, homemade baked goods, canned goods, honey, and more.

โ€‹The Local Co-Opโ€‹

This isn't quite your typical farmers' market, but instead a co-op of local farmers who come together to create a food hub. Explore their farm box program and select your preferred pickup location to receive your fresh produce, eggs, and more.

Celebrate the Grand Re-Opening of Vail Coffee Stop! Stop between the tracks for fun prizes, music, special drinks, and activities for the kids from 5 AM - 12 PM this Saturday, August 23!

Mark Your Calendar! Get free admission to a historical day of fun at the 4th annual Constitution Day Celebration. Revolutionary era costume parade, live music, games, booth vendors, a special flyover, and a hot dog lunch!

  • โ€‹Rock and Roll Sushi is now open! Stop by their location in Rita Ranch to show your excitement for this new restaurant in our area!
    โ€‹
  • โ€‹Hatch Green Chiles, Anyone? Four Arrows is hosting a huge green chile festival where you can get chiles specially delivered from Hatch, New Mexico and roasted here in Vail! Save the drive. Support local. And have a whole lot of Four Arrows fun in the process.

Want to spread the good word about your business, a project, a job opening, or just want to shout out one of your neighbors? Trail Mix has you covered.

Contact: Pima Animal Care Center, 4000 N. Silverbell Rd., 520-724-5900. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 12pm - 7pm. Wednesday 1:30pm - 7pm. Saturday and Sunday 10am - 5pm

Ready for a new coat of paint?

Behr recently revealed their latest color of the year, and this one feels perfect for the cactus hues of Southern Arizona โ€” Hidden Gem. This color pairs well with other desert hues, including a Trail Mix favorite, Terra Cotta Urn. Grab a paint sample from Home Depot in the Houghton Town Center and add depth and color to your home.
